Reconciliation

At GVAT we are committed to integrating the values and principles of reconciliation with First Nations into our work. Our first step in this journey was to learn. Five of our core team took training offered by the Indigenous Perspectives Society. Three of us are enrolled in an Online Course at UBC: “Reconciliation Through Education”.

Core Team Building

More than 40 gathered in January to learn to strengthen their organization. Many are now on the road to doing deeper listening that will help uncover the biggest challenges facing their members and how they can amplify their values in the wider community. Before we can work together on shared issues, we need to lay the foundations for better working together.

Building relationships with labour

We were delighted to receive funding from both the BCTF and BCGEU! Thank you to both.

In March almost 40 gathered to learn and discuss how the IAF organizing model can help union members and labour activists to better engage members, help win big victories, build power and strengthen connections with the wider community. We were pleased to see representatives from the BCGEU, the Hospital Employees Union, Unifor, the Steelworkers, Retail Action, the BCTF and Greater Victoria Teachers Association, PEA, CUPE 463, Iron and Earth, CUPW, TAPS, LiUNA 1611 and Friends of Cuba.
