Action Research Team (ART) Co-Leads
Affordable Housing ART
Lynn Beak has a background and passion in facilitating growth and strengthening community voices. She has been active volunteering with community groups for decades. She practiced law in northern Ontario at a community-based legal clinic, and was on the Executive of the National Action Committee for the Status of Women for several years. She has also represented provincial governments in their engagement with First Nations. Most recently, she taught justice-related courses at Royal Roads University and assisted provincial governments on policy development.

Stephen Tyler has lived in Calgary, Stockholm, California, Singapore and, since 1997, in Victoria. He trained as an urban planner and worked in natural resource management, mostly in Canada and in Southeast Asia. He has led international research programs and consulted to provincial government agencies in B.C., as well as international organizations such as the World Bank and CIDA. He has been active in community organizations in Victoria for over 20 years.

Mental Health and Addictions ART
Chris Bullock, a co-lead for the Mental Health and Addictions ART, taught English and writing at the University of Alberta for 30 years. He has lived experience with mental health issues, and is dedicated to the practice of inclusive and democratic communication

Climate Change ART
Jane Welton is a retired social worker who is currently focused on achieving climate justice, mainly via GVAT and the Resistance Rising choir. She is delighted to find her adoption home study skills very useful in planning, doing and writing up Climate ART interviews.

Eric Doherty is a transportation planner, and an active member of GVAT member group Climate Justice Victoria. Eric one of the co-leads of GVAT’s Climate Action Research Team. In his consulting business, Ecopath Planning, Eric specializes in improving community health and livability, as well as reducing climate pollution. Some of Eric’s writing on transportation and climate justice is published in the National Observer.

Michael GloverSince 1998 Michael Glover has worked for the Camosun College Student Society and grown with that organization. He is the primary student advocate, employs students to run the Walk Safer program (Camosun’s night time safety program), he manages the societies branding and also the membership outreach strategy. In addition to this Michael was the Managing Artistic Director of the Greater Victoria Shakespeare Festival From 2005 to 2014. He currently sits on the executive of CUPE 2081. Michael is here because he believes that building a strong civic sector is the only way to start dealing with the inequalities he has found along the way.

Peggy WilmotPeggy has been an educator all her life. Her involvement in GVAT started several years ago, when members of Faith in Action became interested in expanding their commitment to social justice. Once we learned more about the IAF model, our membership grew to include not only other faith communities, but labour unions, educators, front line service providers and environmental groups. She has been on the Board since GVAT's founding.
