GVAT launches first “Climate Conversation” with member organisation Holy Cross Catholic Parish

On March 28, Climate ART Co-Lead Jane Welton facilitated a wide-ranging Zoom conversation with members of the Social & Eco Justice Committee at Holy Cross Catholic Parish. Jane began by defining the difference between “climate change” and “climate Justice,” giving examples of how economically advantageous countries like Canada could work to achieve the latter. She then asked a series of questions as to how participants feel towards climate change (fears, anger, hope . . .), how climate change has affected them personally, what they have already done to help solve this problem, and what other ideas they have. Participants eagerly shared their feelings, experiences, and ideas. Jane then provided more information on the goals of the GVAT Climate Justice Action Research Team in the areas of Transportation, Forestry, and Food and Agriculture. The 1 ½-hour long session concluded with participants committing to further climate justice actions in the next month. Everyone left the meeting feeling more informed and hopeful, and resolved to do their part in saving humanity’s common home.

The next Climate Conversation is scheduled for March 31, with St. John the Divine Anglican Church.
